Unisono’s Community Roots and Vision

Unisono is an initiative that began over 10 years go Led by The Resurrection Project.  At that time the festival was called Tardes en el Zócalo. It was designed as a community festival in the heart of the Pilsen neighborhood. In 2011 Tardes en el zocalo evolved to Unísono: One Sound One Village. It is the vision of The Resurrection Project for this festival to celebrate culture, diversity and higher education, while also shedding light on social justice issues and engaging people to act on those that most affect their communities.

Unísono aims to unite people from various ethnic backgrounds, race, religions, and creeds to come together to make our society a more just one. Arts and culture have historically contributed to social  change and we find ourselves in a time where we must again rely on these components to change our society.

We know that Arts and Culture, particularly from minority communities, and communities of color are vastly under-supported and disregarded. Unísono aims to achieve support of minority artists and artists of color, as well as proof the relevance that arts and culture have in conveying a social message, and changing our social construct. Other civic groups are also moving towards supporting Arts and Culture initiatives. Unísono aims to aid these efforts and raise more awareness to these issues.
